  • Extended Block battery range offers increased performance and lower maintenance.
  • Improved Block batteries can support every discharge profile from one second to 100 hours.

Dubai, March 2, 2015

Saft, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-tech industrial batteries, is showing its newly improved nickel-based Block battery range at MEE 2015. The extended range now includes additional capacity steps, which makes it easier to select the ideal battery for any stationary backup or engine starting applications. In demanding Middle East operating conditions, including utilities, oil and gas and industrial installations, the updated Block design also offers reduced maintenance requirements and faster recharge capabilities.

Saft is also demonstrating its lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, which have a wide variety of mission critical backup applications, especially in oil and gas, data centres, UPS and telecoms.

Saft Block batteries – featuring three major improvements

Saft’s Block batteries range is based on the well proven NifeÒ nickel-based pocket plate technology that has established the benchmark for industrial batteries in the Middle East’s industrial applications. The range has now been upgraded to feature three major improvements.

First, the range has been extended to include a total of 181 capacity steps over the SBLE, SBM and SBH ranges (low, medium and high capacities). This means that it is now possible to size a battery more closely to the exact requirements for backup and engine starting duties to ensure the optimum, cost-effective solution.

Second, the maintenance requirements of the batteries have also been reduced as their topping up interval with water has been multiplied by a factor of up to two, making a significant contribution to reducing the overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the installed battery system.

Lastly, the Block batteries range now has improved rechargeability for a faster recharge time that ensures   better performance for higher levels of system reliability and continuity.

The SBLE range is designed for power backup and bulk energy storage applications. SBM batteries deliver backup power in the mid range or for mixed loads and SBH provides high power for brief periods. The range offers a solution to suit every discharge profile from one second to 100 hours.

Nickel-based batteries for specialized applications

Saft is also showing its specialized nickel-based Uptimax, Tel.X, SPH and Sunica.plus ranges. Uptimax provides maintenance-free mission-critical backup for oil and gas installations, while Tel.X is designed for offshore installations where space is limited. Sunica.plus is widely used to provide the ideal energy storage solution for off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) and hybrid power telecom installations.

Advanced Li-ion battery systems

Saft’s Intensium® Flex Li-ion system is designed for UPS and stationary backup applications where space is limited, especially in the oil and gas, telecoms and data centre industries. Evolion® is an ultra-compact, modular concept for both off- and on-grid telecom installations, where it delivers outstanding cycle and calendar life, even in the high temperatures experienced in uncooled outdoor cabinets.
