Battery life estimation is paramount to the success of any IoT development. However, it can be quite challenging to assess at the beginning of the design process what type of battery to use, what the device will actually achieve and how long it will last before its battery is totally depleted.
Traditionally, there is a common rule of thumb amongst IoT developers to calculate the expected battery life of their device: they simply divide the theoretical capacity of the battery by an estimate of the device’s average current consumption. This method provides a quick and accessible estimate to get a sense of what is possible to achieve for a specific device. Unfortunately, since it doesn’t take into account the exact power consumption of the device and its specificities once deployed in the field, its prediction results can lack accuracy and precision. To find out why, read our article “Optimizing your energy consumption”.
This is why a company called Wisebatt entered the market.
Wisebatt’s solution helps electronic engineers design more reliable smart devices, faster. Their simulator enables them to create a virtual prototype of their device in just a few minutes and to simulate its battery life. In no time at all, developers can access complex modeling results that would usually take weeks to generate. IoT developers and electronics engineers can then experiment with several parameters to make the optimal choice between cost, battery life and performance, very early in the design cycle. Wisebatt’s solution is unique on the market and benefits from a sterling reputation, helping developers to save up to 3 months and up to 200 000€ in research and development.
Saft and Wisebatt have been working together for a while. We have similar customers and we pursue a common goal: helping engineers estimate their power consumption as close as possible to the reality in order to select the best battery that will give their IoT projects the longest lifetime in the field and the best ROI. Thus, developers using Wisebatt can test their solution with Saft’s batteries within the tool. But we wanted to go a step further.
So, from mid-April onwards, Saft’s customers and prospects will be able to access Wisebatt’s platform FOR FREE on Saft’s website, create their virtual prototype and test it with Saft batteries. Once they are satisfied with their choice, they will be able to contact us directly within the tool. Using their virtual prototype as a support for discussion, we will help them finalize their estimation and order their batteries. Not only will they save time and money in research and development but they will also be able to streamline the processes.
In the near future, we will add new features and models within the tool to offer more comprehensive and even more accurate battery life estimation results.
So watch this space, we’ll let you know as soon as Wisebatt simulation tool is available on Saft’s website!
Saft batteries are powering half of the Telecom satellites and are the leader in high-end & long battery life IoT application. Being backed-up by such a renowned company is a great opportunity for us. We wanted to leverage their incredible battery expertise and battery life estimation model to learn and let Wisebatt’s users benefit from their knowledge.Wilfried Dron, CEO & Co-founder at Wisebatt
