When it comes to choosing batteries, performance and price are often the principal considerations. However, the manufacturing process also plays an important role, especially if the client requires electronic equipment assembled on large volume assembly lines for mass production.
The dimensional tolerances of the cells, especially at the level of the soldered connections can be slender, causing production line stoppages during assembly, or defective assemblies if the connections are not 100% precise.
It’s for this reason that we have worked with our production line suppliers to create an automatic connection installation with a level of precision unmatched on the market in terms of process repeatability.
The machine is used to laser weld 2 or 3 leg connections on the positive and negative poles of our small LS cells from 1/2 AA to A sizes, in a precise and repeatable way. It can systematically produce 25 different types of cells, which means we can adapt the production to the specific needs of our clients.
Florian Deveau, Automatism project manager at Saft, is taking us on a tour of the machine to explain:
For our clients, this means more reliability, a facilitated automation for mass production and less production line stoppages, which leads to substantial savings. Philipp Schlegel, head of industrialization and automation at Diehl Metering testifies: “Saft's automatic welding machine helped us to improve our own OEE by 1,5% and make savings of roughly 100 000 € per year per product.”
