Searching for a parking spot can be a major headache, which is why a logistic centre in Spain's capital of Madrid implemented a smart parking approach for its 1,000 employees. Supplied by the Internet of Things (IoT) company Urbiotica, the system uses a network, routers, and dynamic signage to guide drivers to unoccupied parking spots. In turn, the system saves time for employees and improves working environments. Success depends on a reliable source of power for Urbiotica's wireless U-Spot parking space sensors. Urbiotica had to develop an autonomous long life and reliable solution that offered the lowest TCO for the customer, avoiding the expense of installing power cables.
Since any need to replace batteries in the field would lead to high operating costs, Urbiotica selected LS 26500 primary lithium batteries after its mathematical model showed that it would operate without fail throughout a long service life, even in tough environments. This has helped to achieve the objective of CAPEX, OPEX, and lowest possible TCO for the parking owner.
