Saft offers large (200 to 2000 kg) battery systems with an energy pack of Ni-Cd and Ni-MH cells complete with electrical and mechanical interfaces. Batteries are housed in metal structures, usually in stainless steel, designed for fitting directly on the vehicle (under the floor, on the roof or, less usually, inside). In addition to electrical and mechanical interfaces, these systems can integrate management, electric and thermal control of the battery, and centralized filling system (Ni-Cd). 

These systems are used in surface and underground trains, trams, and even in buses and special trucks.
They are usually custom-developed to client specifications and standards. 

Saft has extensive experience in meeting the needs of OEMs and operators who require a complete battery system, and has developed nine standard systems for new build trains. 

Batteries for standby power applications (lighting, ventilation, door operation, etc.) are rated 24 V to 110 V, and batteries for traction applications from 220 V to 600 V. 

Saft battery systems bring rationalized interfaces to simplify vehicle construction, and their robust and ergonomic design makes for easier maintenance and operation.
