Underwater vehicles
Manned and unmanned underwater vehicles play an increasingly important role in marine defence operations. The majority of these are battery-powered and are expected to work for long periods at depths of up to 6,000 metres.
Underwater diver vehicles

Electric-propelled underwater vehicles enable divers to cover distances easily. They can work in deep water to tow significant payloads. Naval forces often use them on dangerous tasks, such as rescue and recovery missions.
Advances in propulsion and power source technology continue to extend the range and performance of such vehicles.
Underwater Vehicles
Saft technology delivers the efficient, lightweight battery systems capable of handling high payloads over extended periods for the new generation of unmanned and manned underwater vehicles. These include:
Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs)
Manned underwater vehicles
Other below-surface vehicles.
Partnership with leading defence organisations
Saft is partner to some of the world’s leading defence organizations including the US Navy, French Defense procurement agency (DGA - GESMA) and also manufacturers of underwater vehicles such as BAe Systems.
Battery technologies
Saft battery technologies suitable for underwater applications include:
Modular Li-ion systems
Saft takes a modular approach to creating the right lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery for the application, using either cylindrical or prismatic cells. This enables us to offer total design flexibility suited to all types of application. The result is high-performance, compact power solutions for anything from small underwater divers to large underwater vessels.
