The battery technology

Saft Aviation Ni-Cd cells consist of parallel connected sinter positive electrodes facing parallel connected negative plates (either sinter or plastic bonded) immersed in alkaline electrolyte. The positive and negative electrodes are physically separated by a separator system which prevents electronic conduction but allows ionic conduction.

The nominal voltage of a single Ni-Cd cell is 1.2 V.
The capacity of a cell depends on the quantity of active materials in each plate and the number of plates it contains. The power of a cell depends mainly on the surface area of each plate and the number of plates it contains.
Most Saft aviation batteries have 20 cells connected in series to give a nominal battery voltage of 24 V. The battery capacity is the same as that of the individual cells it contains. The battery power is the sum of the individual cell powers.
